Hourly to Salary Calculator — Complete Guide

Hourly pay and annual salary describe the same income from different angles, and switching between them is essential when you compare job offers, freelance rates or part-time schedules. This calculator converts an hourly rate into weekly, monthly and annual gross income.

What this calculator does

Enter your hourly rate, the hours you work each week and the number of vacation weeks you take. Choose whether that leave is paid or unpaid, and optionally add an estimated tax rate. The tool then shows the gross annual salary, the monthly and weekly equivalents, your effective hourly rate and the number of working weeks used in the calculation.

The formula

weekly = rate × hours
paid weeks = paid leave ? 52 : 52 − vacation weeks
annual = weekly × paid weeks
monthly = annual ÷ 12
effective hourly = annual ÷ (paid weeks × hours)

Whether vacation is paid makes a real difference: paid leave keeps all 52 weeks in the annual total, while unpaid leave removes the weeks you are not paid for.

A worked example

Take $25 per hour at 40 hours a week. With paid leave, the annual gross is 25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000, or $4,333 per month and $1,000 per week. If the two weeks are unpaid, only 50 working weeks count: 25 × 40 × 50 = $50,000, which is $4,167 per month; the effective hourly rate stays $25 because every paid hour is still worked at $25. Add a 20% tax estimate and the net annual figure becomes 52,000 × 0.80 = $41,600, or $3,467 per month.

Paid vs unpaid leave and edge cases

Converting hourly pay to a salary makes offers directly comparable and shows how much a raise per hour is really worth over a full year.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert hourly pay to annual salary?

Annual income = hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year. The calculator uses a standard 40-hour, 52-week year, or your own schedule.

What about unpaid time off and holidays?

If you do not get paid vacation, use fewer weeks per year (for example 50) to reflect your real income.

Is this gross or net income?

All results are gross income before tax and deductions. Your take-home pay will be lower.
