Scientific Calculator — Complete Guide

This is a full keypad calculator that runs entirely in your browser: type an expression with the buttons, see it exactly as written, and evaluate it with one press. It handles everyday arithmetic as comfortably as the scientific functions — you never need it installed, and it works the same on phone and desktop.

What it supports

How the evaluation works

expression → token cleanup → JS evaluation → 12 significant digits examples: 2+3×4 = 14 sin(30) DEG = 0.5 √2 = 1.41421356 ln(e²) = 2

The calculator respects proper precedence: multiplication and division bind before addition and subtraction, and parentheses override everything. Results are rounded to 12 significant digits, which strips floating-point noise such as 0.9999999999 down to exactly 1.

Worked examples

ExpressionModeResult
2 + 3 × 4—14
(2 + 3) × 4—20
sin(30)DEG0.5
5^2 + √(144)—37
log(1000)—3

Tips and limits

AC wipes the expression, ⌫ deletes one character at a time, and after pressing = the next digit starts a fresh calculation. Dividing by zero or leaving a parenthesis unclosed shows a clear error rather than a wrong number. For anything beyond about 15 digits of precision — very large exponents or symbolic algebra — you need dedicated software, not any pocket calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use the scientific calculator?

Tap or click the keypad to build an expression — it shows in the display exactly as typed — then press = (or the Calculate button) to evaluate. The result appears both in the display panel and in the result card on the right.

What do DEG and RAD mean?

They control how trig functions interpret angles. In DEG mode, sin(30) means 30 degrees (result 0.5); in RAD mode the same input means 30 radians (about −0.988). Switch with the buttons above the keypad.

What operations are supported?

The four arithmetic operations, parentheses, percentages (50% becomes 0.5), powers (x² and xʸ), square roots, natural log (ln), base-10 log, the constants π and e, and sine/cosine/tangent. Implicit multiplication like 2(3+4) or 2π works too.
